Behind the Designs

Adrian paul interiors Berkshire

Do you have a particular style?

No. In the world of interior design, professionals are often pressured to pivot to chase every emerging trend constantly.

My experience and honed interior design skills enable me to avoid being a 'one-track pony’ and focus on meeting my clients' needs. This ensures that every space I curate is not merely decorated, but thoughtfully engineered for function, aesthetic harmony, and appeal, designed to bring a client's vision to life.

A signature look?

Not really, and I think that’s important. My role isn’t to recreate the same house over and over again. Every client, every building and every location is different. What remains consistent is the way we approach proportion, comfort, functionality and the layering of colour and texture ensuring that the client’s vision is brought to life.

What makes a House a Home?

How long is a piece of string? For me it isn’t about how much you’ve spent or whether everything matches. It’s about creating rooms that reflect the people who live there. Favourite books, collected objects, furniture, fabrics and good lighting all contribute to a home that feels authentic rather than staged. There should be a sense of fun, generosity and joy. More joy. Always.

What and Where?

The portfolio spans everything from townhouses and country houses apartments and international residences. Whether we’re refreshing a much-loved home or undertaking a complete renovation, my approach remains the same: creating interiors that feel timeless, comfortable and beautifully resolved.

I am based in Berkshire but undertake projects throughout the UK and internationally.

Where to Begin?

Interior design begins not with fabrics or colour swatches, but with people. By listening closely to the rhythms of everyday life, every subsequent design decision becomes intuitively clear.

I believe every space should, to a point, reflect its inhabitants. Often, this starts by anchoring the concept in an element they already love—perhaps a treasured antique, a beloved painting, or a lifelong favourite hue.

To achieve a layered and compelling interior, it’s important to seamlessly blending the old with the new. By combining these existing personal milestones with bespoke creations and carefully curated finds, I craft personal spaces that honour the past while embracing fresh, modern living, as defined by clients.

Colour?

Love colour. Even the most serene neutral room is thoughtfully constructed through subtle shifts in tone, warmth, and texture. Design, in my view, should cultivate atmosphere, functioning much like a tailored outfit to convey timeless style rather than demanding immediate attention.

Ultimately, genuine personality stems from careful composition, and curated pieces—not simply from a palette of bold hues. Some of the most enduring and memorable spaces that remain understated, proving that elegance is often found in the quietest details.

Inspirations ?

Whether it is found in the intricate geometry of urban architecture, the rich textures of a tiled façade, or the colours of the landscape, - fortunately I live in the countryside - creative potential exists all around us.

The process of creation is rooted in how disparate elements harmonise to tell a cohesive story. Inspiration is rarely a stroke of sudden luck; rather, it is the direct result of slowing down, looking closer, and actively engaging with clients.
